Uncharted 2 wins Game of the Year at Spike VGAs [Comments Off]
Title says it all, really. The Internetz does not necessarily share the same opinion, but we can totally stand behind this.
Congratulations to Naughty Dog and Sony!
How many people made Uncharted 2? Less than you think. [Comments Off]
I am sure that one of the first questions that popped into your head after finishing “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves” was: ‘All that is holy, I wonder how many people it takes to create such a meticulously crafted masterpiece…’
Fret no more, thanks to vg247 we know, as Evan Wells, co-preisdent of Naughty Dog, tells us just that:
“By the end of the project we had about 85 people working on it internally. We also had several contractors helping us in the closing months and we did a lot of outsourcing. Sony also has some amazing support groups that were instrumental in us completing the music, sound, and animation.”
85 then, and a couple of contractors. Now that you finally know, let’s put the number in perspective: Assassin’s Creed 2 has 450 people working on it.
German Uncharted 2 Contains English Voice Track After All [2]
I just picked up a special edition of “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves” for, uhm, research purposes, and I can confirm that if your system language is set to English, the game will be fully in English, audio and text.
There’s been some confusion about this online, but you can now rest assured that the German version also has a load of Nolan North.
Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Demo on PSN [Comments Off]
Naughty Dog has just released the “Uncharted 2″ multi-player demo on PSN! In short, the Multiplayer Demo includes four maps, four competitive modes, two co-op modes, Cinema mode, and a partridge in a pear tree! Okay, maybe not the pear tree, but you get the point.
To explain, Cinema mode is like theater mode in “Halo 3″. The game automatically records all of your actions in competitive multi-player matches, after which, you can re-watch, chop, and piece together your clips to make a movie!
Get to downloading, suckers. I know you want to catch an AK-47 shot to the face from me online.
Uncharted 2’s tech wizardry analyzed [Comments Off]
If you’re up for a little reading, Eurogamer has you covered: Their Digital Foundry blog has just posted a 3 page tech analysis for “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves”. They’re just a wee bit in a awe:
Thus far, the game’s tech has aced every conceivable challenge thrown at it. The question is really whether there’s actually anything from a performance perspective that we don’t like about this demo?
Well, is there? — Yes, there is. It seems that Naughty Dog’s choice to enable triple buffering in the game to eliminate tearing has come at a price:
I set about measuring controller response in both Uncharted games, and came up with results of 100ms for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (effectively the fastest a 30FPS game can react), up against 133ms in Uncharted 2
A small price to pay to get rid of the artifacting caused by an uneven frame-rate.
The article is well worth a read for anyone who can tell the difference between SSAO and FSAA and those who aspire to. Or if you want to kill a couple of minutes between breakfast and brunch.
First Uncharted 2 Reviews are in [Comments Off]
Looks like Naughty Dog are bringing one of the best games of all time to the PlayStation 3. One of the best games of all time. “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves” has received it’s fair share of pre-release accolades, but the reviews are in, and there seems to be an unequivocal consensus.
The US Official PlayStation magazine gave out a 5/5, however the french mag PSM3 went one step further:
“Long, visually stunning, deep and explosive, Uncharted 2 combines all the qualities you can find in a videogame, and more. A new milestone has been reached in videogame history.”
The score? 21 out 20. Wow. Kanye, take it from here.
Uncharted 2 takes the train. awesome. [Comments Off]
Amy Hennig of Naughty Dog showed up at PAX and presented a never before seen part of “Uncharted 2″ that takes place on a train. It’s certainly very convincing. We don’t know where the train is heading yet, but if we get to look at Chloe’s ass when we get there it’s all good! Kotaku has a full write-up about Amy Hennig’s short introduction.
She set the clip up, saying it occurred halfway through the game and realized a goal of her team’s: Enabling gameplay on moving objects. Drake would start at the back of a train and try to get to someone he wants to rescue in the front. Yes, Hennig acknowledged, there have been plenty of train levels in games. But this one would not just put you on a static train that has a background zipping past you, she said. Uncharted 2’s train level would feature a freight train that is fully-modeled, takes turns, has its separate cars and supports all of the climbing and shooting gameplay available to player.
Reading stuff is boring though, so we have a video for you after the break. We’re nice like that. Sometimes. Can I have a chocolate bar? CONTINUED →
Uncharted 2’s ice cave is beautiful, boring [Comments Off]
Naughty Dog decided to bore the european press to tears with a 20 or so minute demo of the ice-cave stage of Uncharted 2.
Not that there is anything wrong with the game, it still is the most beautiful video game to date, but watching a dude climb for 20 minutes without being able to interact with it is not exactly exciting.
Most notable achievement: not a single ‘jaggie’ on a 100+ inch screen.
