Left 4 Dead maps coming to Left 4 Dead 2?

NeoGAF member Red Scarlett has spotted something odd while trying to get into a game of “Left 4 Dead 2″ on the PC this evening: The maps Death Toll and No Mercy appeared to be selectable with a download link pointing to Valve’s very own Steam Store. Shortly thereafter the maps seemed to have been pulled and the disappeared from the available games screen.

We’ll ask Valve for comment but those guys are probably still sleeping — it is about 3AM in Washington State as I write this. We’ll let you know once we hear anything.

Left 4 Dead 2 now lag-free on Xbox 360 [Comments Off]

Not quite Heavy Rain.

According to a post on the official “Left 4 Dead 2″ blog, Valve has now fixed the immensely laggy multiplayer part of the game:

We have upgraded our network infrastructure to better accommodate the huge response to L4D2. 360 players will now have lag-free servers. We’ve also added more dedicated servers.

No longer will you have to live in fear, thinking your internet connection is busted, cursing at your ISP. For what it’s worth, and anecdotal evidence is not worth a lot, my connection went from one red bar to 3 full green bars. That’s quite an improvement.

Left 4 Dead 2 Realism mode detailed

Valve has finally unveilled the realism mode found in “Left 4 Dead 2″, the mode, aimed at groups who play the game together frequently, changes up the game quite a bit.
The main changes are as follows:

  • Your teammates are no longer highlighted
  • Weapons and pickups only become highlighted if you are in their immediate promiximity
  • Team members can only be revived using a defibrillator unit, which takes up the same spot as the health pack
  • There’s now up to 7 witches on each stage
  • They will kill you with a single blow
  • Shots to the head are now more important

Realism mode is available for all difficulty levels. A video walkthrough courtesy of G4 is after the break. CONTINUED →

Left 4 Dead 2 Hard Rain campaign gameplay video bonanza [3]

Left 4 Dead 2 Hard Rain campaign gameplay video bonanza

Some videos of ‘Hard Rain’, one of the new campaigns in “Left 4 Dead 2″ have started to hit the net. While we are still trying to stay cautiously optimistic on this one, these videos make it hard for us to contain our lust to rip some zombies to shreds with a chainsaw.
The rainy setting and the moody light(n)ing is a true step up from the predecessor and, to be honest, it creeps us out. It doesn’t creep us out as much as “Paranormal Activity”, but that is probably for the best. We are still sleeping with the lights on.

Check out ‘Hard Rain’ after the break. CONTINUED →

New Left 4 Dead 2 “Survival Guide” Trailer

Shacknews has obtained a new trailer for Valve’s Zombie Apocalypse Simulator “Left 4 Dead 2″. There’s really not much else I can say about it except that it’s a must watch for everyone even remotely interested in the game.

Thanks, Alex.

Left 4 Dead 2 to remain censored in Australia [Comments Off]

Left 4 Dead 2 to remain censored in Australia

Valve’s appeal against the refusal of classification for “Left 4 Dead 2″ in Australia was unsuccessful, as a media sendout of the Australian Classification Board shows:

A three-member panel of the Classification Review Board (the Review Board) has unanimously determined that the computer game “Left 4 Dead 2″ is classified RC (Refused Classification).
In the Review Board’s opinion, “Left 4 Dead 2″ could not be accommodated within the MA 15+ classification. The computer game contains a level of violence which is high in impact, prolonged, repeated frequently and realistic within the context of the game.
In addition, it was the Review Board’s opinion that there was insufficient delineation between the depiction of general zombie figures and the human figures, as opposed to the clearly fictional ‘infected’ characters. This was a major consideration of the Review Board in determining the impact of this game on minors.

The cuts our friends down under will have to live with include the removal of “depictions of decapitation, dismemberment, wound detail or piles of dead bodies lying about the environment”. (news.com.au)

It is a shame to see that Australian players will have to do with a gimped version of “Left 4 Dead 2″, but if it is any consolidation, at least on Xbox 360, the first game was region-free.

Left 4 Dead 2 demo dated, complicated

Ok, Valve, why’d you have to go and make things so complicated? I see the way you spread “Left 4 Dead 2″ demo dates out it’s almost if you hated everyone who ever wanted to try your game, oh, no no. Uhm… here’s the breakdown.

October 27th: If you pre-ordered the game, this is when you will be able to play the demo.

November 3rd: This is the day Xbox Live members will get to play the demo.

November 10th: PC gamers as well as Xbox 360 gamers without a Gold membership will be able to get on with the zombie killing.

The demo is set in ‘The Parish’, a campaign set in the French quarters of New Orleans and will feature the new boss infected as well as an arrangement of melee weapons. Excite!!!
