Left 4 Dead 2 demo dated, complicated [Comments Off]

Ok, Valve, why’d you have to go and make things so complicated? I see the way you spread “Left 4 Dead 2″ demo dates out it’s almost if you hated everyone who ever wanted to try your game, oh, no no. Uhm… here’s the breakdown.

October 27th: If you pre-ordered the game, this is when you will be able to play the demo.

November 3rd: This is the day Xbox Live members will get to play the demo.

November 10th: PC gamers as well as Xbox 360 gamers without a Gold membership will be able to get on with the zombie killing.

The demo is set in ‘The Parish’, a campaign set in the French quarters of New Orleans and will feature the new boss infected as well as an arrangement of melee weapons. Excite!!!

Someone somewhere just leaked the 2 last “Left 4 Dead 2″ campaigns. Dead Center and Hard Rain join the likes of Swamp Fever, Dark Carnival and The Parish. At least one of them will make sure that kitty gets wet.
Check out the posters after the break.

New Left 4 Dead 2 mode, difficulty [Comments Off]

Earlier today, Valve presented one of the new competitive modes for “Left 4 Dead 2″, called ‘Scavenge’. In this mode, the objective for the survivors is to gather a certain amount of gas cans to start up a generator. The opposing team, playing special infected, needs to make sure this doesn’t happen.

There’s 3 (1, 2, 3) gameplay videos up on 1up for you to watch.

Also confirmed is a new difficulty called “Realism”, this one’s for the hardcore, says Doug Lombardi:

“Take Portal for example: We had our best internal players who could blow through that game in about 30 minutes, but within weeks of launching it we had people on YouTube beating [the testers'] times by 10 minutes or more. Realism is for those players.”

There better not be an Achievement for that, I can barely make it through on advanced!

Left4Dead Update “Crash Course”

Another update for L4D is now out. The update applies automatically when your steam client boots. The major update includes these new tweaks and additions.

  • “Crash Course,” a new campaign is now playable in Campaign, Versus, and Survival Modes
  • In Versus mode, all weapons, and health pick ups will be identical to the first round the second round.
  • Improvement to the performance of Matchmaking
  • “Crash Course” based achievements have been added.

Keep your auto shotgun reloaded by checking back for other news.

It’s worth noting that while the update has hit Xbox LIVE as well, you should probably not plunk down 800 Microsoft Points for it that they’re asking for it right now, as the price that was supposed to be 560 points will be adjusted during the course of the day.

A Taste of the Zombie Apocalypse [2]

The message Valve is sending couldn’t be clearer: “We’re tired of flying people to our offices to convince them that “Left 4 Dead 2″ is indeed awesome, so we are going to release a demo”.
Release date is the 27th of October. It’s coming to both PC (via Steam, duh) and Xbox 360. The content of the demo has not been revleaed yet, but we’re banking we’re going to be fighting zombies. With guns.

Left 4 Dead DLC with fame: Paramore

Paramore, as made famous by their song Decode featured in Twilight, are going to be playing “Crash Course”, the new DLC for “Left 4 Dead” on the 23rd of September 6PM EST via Xbox Live. Why should you care? Well, for one, this means that “Crash Course” will most likely release on or before the 23rd of September.
Add gamertag Paramore GWF as a friend on Xbox Live and a game invite might come your way. I have gathered intelligence that Hayley Williams actually knows what she is doing in “Left 4 Dead”, so be prepared and don’t embarrass yourself in-front of a lady. Also, bring 560 MS Points. You are going to need them.

Left 4 Dead 2: AI Director is Lady Gaga [Comments Off]

Eurogamer went a little “Left 4 Dead 2″ crazy this week, posting not one but two new hands-ons about this year sequel to last year’s semi-surprise hit zombie shooter. They seem impressied.

[The AI Director is] the king of Left 4 Dead, the unseen hand on the panel of instruments that determine the flow of infected zombies into your four-man team’s path, and in Left 4 Dead 2 he can punish you in tons of new ways – he has new special infected to divide you up and drive you into peril, he can smash you with storms and force you down new paths – all the while he continues to shape and reshape the pace and tone of the adventure with an intelligence that belies the fact he’s just a bundle of scripts and programming routines designed to mess you about.

Oh my, that gets me all kinds of hot and bothered. I might read their interview with Chet Faliszek to cool off — which is only funny because it is topical.

I other exciting news, I almost ticked the PS3 box when I submitted the news. Yeah, not happening. Blame Gabe Newell or Ken Kutaragi. Your choice, really.
