Final Fantasy XIII appears to be lacking a few pixels on Xbox 360

Pixelcounters unite! Users on NeoGAF have analyzed the holy beejesus out of the recenlty released “Final Fantasy XIII” screens, coming to the conclusion that the Xbox 360 version of the game runs at the resolution of 1024×576, meaning the PlayStation 3 displays 332316 pixels more.

I have altered the picture above the news post to reflect this new development. From now on, posts talking about the Xbox 360 version of the game will have their picture rendered in a much lower resolution, to adjust your eyes to Final Fantasy XIII’s deficiencies. Also, to save bandwidth. Two birds, one stone.

It remains to be seen if these claims are indeed true, because this is huge. I don’t know how much you know about screen resolutions, I’m an expert, but honor and shame are huge parts of it. If you screw someone over with a sub HD resolution, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Xbox 360 owners, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase FFXIII, nor will they purchase any of Square’s games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and make the Xbox 360 version 720p or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Why you are not getting a Final Fantasy VII remake [1]

Why you are not getting a Final Fantasy VII remake

Japanese reviewers and gamers were quite unhappy with the linearity present in “Final Fantasy XIII”, but this is due to the time-consuming process of creating free-roaming worlds with towns in them, explains Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase. This is also the reason why a “Final Fantasy VII” remake, a game quite ambition is scope, is either ways off or a pipe dream:

“This issue is related to whether a Final Fantasy 7 remake will happen or not. It is very hard to make games on PlayStation 3 in the same style as the games in that era had. Making graphics will take enormous time.”

So please, whatever you do, don’t hold your breath for this one.

First look at Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days

The first proper trailer for “Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days” awaits you after the jump. It showcases the game’s new visual style, which is based on YouTube. No, Really.
Kind-of ironic that they didn’t host the trailer on YouTube, but I guess IGN had more money. Check it out, it’s fantastic.

Famitsu finds Final Fantasy XIII almost perfect [Comments Off]

Famitsu finds Final Fantasy XIII almost perfect

The cat is out of the bag, or wall: Famitsu have awarded “Final Fantasy XIII” on PlayStation 3 with a 39/40.
As you may or may not know, at Famitsu 4 people rate the game, each of them scoring it on a range of 10, then the scores get added. So what did the reviewer who only gave it 9 think?

There’s a few niggling issues like battle damage being difficult to see, and the screen being cluttered, but the amount of enjoyment this game offers more than makes up for it. You’ll be drawn into the world with visual, aural, and story aspects. I have a bit of resistance calling this an “RPG-like RPG” however.

Obviously, the scores here are for the PlayStation 3 version of the game, as it won’t be on Xbox 360 in Japan. The game will be out in December over there, we are getting it in March.

Either way, the main take-away point here is: “Bayonetta” is better.
