Hey Famitsu, How Awesome Is Bayonetta?

If you have been following the game, or the career of Hideki Kamiya at all, this might come as no surprise to you: Platinum Games’ Non-Stop Climax Action beat’em up “Bayonetta” scored a perfect 40/40 in Japan’s Famitsu magazine.

It’s kind of a big deal, because so far only 11 titles have achieved the much coveted 40; “Bayonetta” is now amongst the ranks of “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time”, “Metal Gear Solid 4″ and “Monster Hunter Tri”.

Thank you, Brian Ashcraft of Kotaku for your wonderful understanding of Japanese. Now, let’s get out them party hats!

Lengthen your Climax: Bayonetta Demo easter egg adds a Verse

I don’t know about you, but we simply can not possibly get enough of the “Bayonetta” Demo (download here). Well, here’s some good news, you can actually play a little more of it.

After clearing out the enemies around the fountain (1st level in the PS3 Demo, 2nd in the 360 one), go back to the beginning of the stage. A bunch of angels will appear and attack you.
This is easily the hardest part of the demo, so make sure you are well prepared; this will easily add a good 5-10 minutes to the length of the demo.

Nothing more to add then ‘good luck’!

Here’s a MegaUpload link to the “Bayonetta” Demo entitled “First Climax” that surfaced on the Japanese Xbox LIVE Marketplace today.

The easiest way to play the game is to create a new DVD with the “Content” folder in the root of the disk. The demo is completely region free.

Well, that’s only half-true, it’s also easy to create a japanese PSN account.

We’ll have a thorough hands-on soon, watch this space.

Bayonetta Demo is out in Japan

I hope you followed my advice from last week and got your japanese accounts all set up, as the “Bayonetta” demo is now available to every Japanese person as well as people using their fingers to look like they’re asian — PSN and XBL are pretty gullible in that regard!

Here’s the link to the 360 Demo, the PS3 version, well, you’ll have to figure that one out on your own!

Shenmue’s Ryo Hazuki to star in Sonic & SEGA All Star Racing

If you truly love “Shenmue”, and care about things like dignity you might want to look away now; SEGA just announced that Ryo Hazuki will be one of the playable characters in “Sonic & SEGA All-Star Racing”. His vehicle of choice is a bike but, if things get hairy, he can whip out his trademark forklift-truck to get rid of his adversaries.

You can’t make this kind of stuff up. I guess after getting pretty much rid of Yu Suzuki, they can do whatever they want, right?

Hey Japan, your Bayonetta Demo is coming

You will probably want a Japanese PSN account right now, as SEGA has just informed us that a demo for “Bayonetta” is coming to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Store on October 8.

Each console is getting their own demo: The PS3 version will feature the tutorial as well as The Angel’s Metropolis Stage, the Xbox 360 demo will also include those, but will have one additional stage: Falling Clock Tower prologue.
Which is weird, because the Xbox 360 demo is 300MB smaller than the PS3 version. Super weird. Super awesome though. I’m stoked, are you?

Valkyria Chronicles enlists your Friends: Co-op confirmed

YES! Welkin and Alicia will be back! Wait, that’s not what we’re supposed to get excited about; “Valkyria Chronicles 2″ will have a co-op and a versus mode, as SEGA just confirmed on the PlayStation.blog.

We are incorporating wireless ad-hoc play into the game, which will feature both co-op and versus modes. We can’t really talk too much about it in detail yet.

I haven’t got the slightest idea how that will work, but that’s why I write a blog and do not design games. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the battlefield is split up into smaller segments? We’ll see.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 is a good idea

Seems like someone at SEGA is a genius: bringing “Valkyria Chronicles 2″ to the PSP might’ve been their best idea since … wow, that’s a tough one. Publishing Platinum Games stuff, maybe? Anyway, Joystiq went hands on with the game and they walked away impressed:

The mixture of real-time and turn-based combat proves to be an ideal handheld gaming experience, mixing the casual pace of a turn-based game with the excitement of a shooter. Valkyria Chronicles is more about tactics, less about precision aiming — a good thing to consider when adapting a title to Sony’s handheld.

Also, they mention the newly structured battlefield: Due to the limitations of the PSP, the big battlefields from the PS3 brethren have now been divided into a handful of skirmishes going on simultaneously. Intriguing, to say the least.
