Microsoft ceases Xbox Live service for Original Xbox

If you were planning on playing some “Halo 2″ on Live, you better do it soon, as Microsoft just announced that they will be discontinuing the service for the original Xbox, as well as original Xbox titles played on the Xbox 360 come April 15th.

This might open up a few new possibilities for Xbox Live, as it is well documented that “Halo 2″ was holding back Microsoft in adding more space to your friends list, as the legacy title only supported friends lists with a maximum of 100 people.

We have the full release for you after the jump. continue reading →

Crackdown 2 to release in the first half of 2010

Aaron Greenberg, head of Microsoft’s gaming division, confirmed that Ruffian’s “Crackdown 2″ will indeed be released in the first half of 2010.

Further proof that the Xbox 360 will have a stellar line-up next year, with “Mass Effect 2″, “Alan Wake” and “Splinter Cell: Conviction” also hitting in the first 6 months of 2010.

The only thing left to wonder is, if “Crackdown 2″ will also get the “Halo”-beta hookup just like it’s predecessor.
Speaking of “Halo”, next year is going to be the best. We’re stoked, you’re too, aren’t you?

Watch the Halo: Reach VGA trailer

The brand new trailer to “Halo: Reach” that was shown yesterday is now available on Bungie.net for download in all kinds of resolutions.

Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter already tweeted that the trailer might not have been all that in-game, though:

Ultra-high AA strongly suggest that the Halo: Reach trailer isn’t as in-game as [Geoff Keighley] promised it would be.

Basically, one cam assume that in-game assets were used, but with some added AA to pretty it up for the premiere. It’s still worth watching, mind. We have the Youtube version for you after the break. continue reading →

Greenberg: “Halo: Reach Will Be The Biggest Game Of 2010″

Microsoft’s product management director Aaron Greenberg is rather confident that “Halo: Reach” will do well. He even went on record (via Gamasutra), saying that nothing will top the Bungie developed title:

“I feel confident that there’s nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010.”

He is dismissing “Gran Turismo 5″ (“Is it launching next year?”) as well as “MAG”. So, yeah, pretty confident. He will probably be right in the long run, too, but being just a little modest never hurt anyone, now did it.
