New Modern Warfare 2 glitch makes you the MVP [1]
So, in hindsight, not having a public beta test for “Modern Warfare 2″ might not have been such a good idea.
Currently a video showing a custom built loadout is making it’s rounds on the web, getting quite some traction on digg, so you might have already seen this, but it’s important to get the word out. If this loadout becomes any sort of popular you might as well stop playing “MW2″, because no one stands a chance against this.
The kit consists of: ‘One Man Army’ perk, an Assault Rifle with a F2000 grenade launcher (a.k.a. ‘noob tube’), and the ‘Scrambler’ perk.

Modern Warfare 2 Mythbusters [Comments Off]
If you are having sleepless nights because you are pondering if an EMP strike can cancel a tactical nuke or if a bursting fire hydrant can kill you, you should probably watch the video posted after the break.
This fan-made “Modern Warfare 2″ Mythbusters video is not only educational, it also goes to show how meticulous the level of detail in Infinity Ward’s work is.

Next Call of Duty goes back to the past [Comments Off]
Don’t worry, we’re talking about Treyarch’s next “Call of Duty”, which should be in your consoles in about a year’s time (probably less).
How we figured? Well, we actually didn’t figure out anything, OPM, with their UAVs clearly online, (via vg247) discovered a job-posting for the title, requiring applicants to:
“Research subject matter for history and look of the level.”
And here I was, expecting to fight aliens on the moon. That said, that could very well happen in this instalment, it’s only a minor step up from nazi zombies after all.
Diablo III, more StarCraft II in the “coming years” [Comments Off]
2010 will not see the release of “Diablo III”, according to Blizzard, in the next year, the famed developer will release the first of three “Starcraft II” chapters as well as the new “World of Warcraft” expansion “Cataclysm”.
“Diablo III” as well as the other 2 parts of “Starcraft II”, namely the Protoss and Zerg campaign are said to launch in the “coming years”. Kotaku has visual proof.
Also, Roman numerals. No reason.
Activision: Modern Warfare 2 had “the biggest launch in history across all forms of entertainment” [1]
This is why Bobby Kotick gets paid the big bucks: “Modern Warfare 2″ made $310 million in 24 hours, according to Activision’s internal estimates, which account for approximately 5 million copies sold on launch day, and this is only for North America and the UK.
Talking to Gamasutra, Cowen Group analyst Doug Creutz suggests an impressive number for the worldwide total:
“We believe U.S. sales likely will amount to 55 percent of the worldwide total, implying a first day worldwide estimate of roughly 7 million.”

Digital Foundry gets its Reflex on [Comments Off]
Eurogamer’s Richard Leadbetter sat down and took a long, hard look at “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex” for the Wii, which is Treyarch’s Wii port of the original “Modern Warfare”. The conclusion is not shocking, albeit a bit surprising:
The notion of porting Modern Warfare to the Wii isn’t so whacked out or as ker-azy as you might initially think for a number of reasons. The first Modern Warfare’s core engine still has a fair amount of DNA left over from the Quake tech upon which the Call of Duty franchise itself was born. The basic setup of the levels in Modern Warfare offers little that any last-generation shooter couldn’t cope with, and this is born out by the quality of the conversion in the Wii game.
Another remark is also rather interesting, as it showcases just how little care goes into making most of the games coming out on the Wii:
The Wii game is serviceable enough but when Criterion’s Black still looks so much better, it’s clear that no technological barriers are being pushed back on the Nintendo console.
A bit sad, innit. Read the full article here. Also, watch the PS3 vs. Wii comparison video. For the lulz.
Review: Modern Warfare 2 [1]
This console generation has been littered with first person shooters. This is not a lamentation, but a fact. The genre has proven to be profitable time and time again, and developers and publishers alike have no plans on slowing down to create shooter after shooter, after all, it is hard to create the sense of thrill and the visceral experience these games provide without a first person perspective and a gun on the screen at all times.
After a slew of imitators have hit the market in the past 2 years, including Treyarch’s relatively successful take on the series, “World at War”, it is again Infinity Ward’s turn to prove that the formula they have established with “Modern Warfare” has enough freshness in it to keep fans happy and to rekindle the love with the doubters and the wary.
IW: “Kotick’s a great guy.” [Comments Off]
There’s a wonderful interview with Infinity Ward’s Joel Emslie, Lead Character Designer, on Gamasutra about ‘bringing “Modern Warfare 2″ to life’, which highlights a lot of interesting aspects of the creation of this year’s undoubtedly biggest blockbuster. However, one quote sticks out:
Finally, I know there’s been some chatter about this online – but has Bobby Kotick really succeeded in taking all the fun out of your video game development process?
Joel Emslie: No way. Absolutely not. Kotick’s a great guy.
As much flak as Bobby Kotick gets in the press, his employees seem to be quite fond of him. Worth remembering when reading next week’s earning call, which will surely be full of outrageous statements from Activision’s CEO.
