Mag Technology Could Support More Than 256 Players
Zipper’s “MAG” supports an already astounding number of 256 players simultaneously — a first for a shooter, but guess what, according to Chief Software Architect Mike Klee, it could potentially support even more:
We built a technology that can support a huge number of players — we picked 256 because of gameplay balance, how we divide squads up, etc. But with our infrastructure, we can increase the number of players to beyond even 256 if we wanted to. There are trade-offs that would have to be made, of course, but the technology supports even more players if the need was there.
And there we were, thinking 256 was a lot. “MAG” is out this January on PlayStation 3. The beta just ended, sorry you had to find out this way. (via the MAG Blog)

That’s all well and good, but they are talking about consoles. They ARE the first game to have 256 players…. on consoles. I would have thought that would be obvious… but I guess i was wrong. |

That’s funny because I play a shooter since the year 2000. It was called worldwar2 online and is now known as battle ground europe.
It does not support 256 players. It supports 10 000 players. Simultaneously please.
It is a FPS. The map is 400km.
Please don’t talk about firts when you’re obviously way below these specs.
256 players is by no mean an achievement or a lot. It doesn’t mean the game is good or not of course, just that you should quit the ugly press stunts with inccurate claims.
