Okami’s world “doesn’t belong” to Hideki Kamiya anymore
Making a sequel to “Okami”, one of the best games to come out on the PS2, and bring it to the DS seems like a genius idea. However, there’s one person who might feel a bit betrayed — Hideki Kamiya, the game’s creator. In a recent interview with GameInformer, he had the following thing to say about the sequel:
“Up until very recently I really felt someday I wanted to make a sequel to Okami, and there were others who wanted me to as well. But then the other day I heard the announcement that someone else would be making a sequel and now I’m just not interested in it anymore. Once someone else touches a world that you yourself created it stops being yours. There is no point in making a sequel when the world doesn’t belong to you.”
It’s a bit of a bummer that Hideki Kamiya might not be fully behind Capcom’s sequel to “Okami”, but the series is certainly in capable hands at Capcom: “Okamiden” is being directed by Kuniomi Matsushita, who worked on the Wii port of “Okami”, and produced by Motohide Eshiro, who has worked on several other beloved Capcom properties, such as “Onimusha” and “Ace Attorney”.

I hear you, but then again, Capcom haven’t released a bad game so in years, right? |

I think Capcom has made some kick ass games this generation. There’s been a couple of meh games, though. Maybe I have nothing to worry about. The Okami DS game seems to have just as much charm and character as the original, which is awesome to see. |

Same. I have been ignoring my DS for a damn long time now. There’s a good amount of software coming in right around this time, though. |

yeah, I’ll be picking up the new Zelda and the new Mario RPG thingy once I am through my PSP back log, which thanks to Monster Hunter will be never. |

Hope this doesn’t change the feel of the series for the worse. I fear Okami becoming casualized for the Wii market.
