Nolan North desperate for Uncharted 3 [Comments Off]
PSN’s very own PlayStation Pulse showed a brief clip of Nolan North, better known as Nathan Drake, the hero of “Uncharted”, telling us what we already kind-of knew:
[...] we gotta make this better. So many sequels to movies fail. This can’t fail because we desperately want to do a third one.
What gives this some more credibility is that Sony decided to put it there. If a 3rd part was up in the air, they had their chance to cut this part of the ‘interview’, yet they did not. Thanks to VG247, although one really has to wonder why anyone would want to watch Pulse. Surely not because of the lovely Christina Lee?
Fresh Modern Warfare 2 Screenshots [1]
Activision just released a fresh bunch of highly anti-aliased 720p screenshots of “Modern Warfare 2″. Also known as shots from the PC version. The one without dedicated servers. Also, a lack of snow. I love snow, but it was getting a bit much, yes?
The game is only about 20 days away. My math skills are failing me. I don’t feel so good.
League of Legends’ beta is now open [1]
More than a spiritual successor to “Defense of the Ancients”, or “DotA”, as most people call it, “League of Legends” is entering open beta. All you have to do is register on the official website to participate. The best part? Well, playing “LoL” of course, but also, everything you earn will carry over to your account once the game is released. (via D’toid)
GTTV shows tons new BioShock 2 footage [2]
Geoff Keighley has taken it upon himself to ruin every game for you 2 months in advance, and he’s trying his darnest to do the same for “BioShock 2″. Unsuccessfully, of course, but the resulting footage is surprisingly impressive and will probably rekindle everyone’s dwindling excitement for the sequel to 2007’s game of the year.
One Army Of Two: 40th Day Multiplayer Mode is pre-order only – for a month [Comments Off]
While “Army of Two” was not exactly packed with multiplayer modes besides the campaign, the sequel seems to come with 3 multiplayer modes — 4 if you preorder.
Gamers who pre-order Army of Two: The 40th Day now will have exclusive access to the game’s all-new explosive multi-player mode, Extraction, at launch. This mode will be unlocked for all other players one month after the game ships.
Extraction pits a team of four players against a series of unique enemy waves as they move from point to point in the ruined city. Players must strategize as a unified team to combat waves of 40th Day Initiative forces while trying to get out alive.
Fairly weird, but I am sure publishers must have some sort of incentive, otherwise they would not be doing these insane things. Also, I don’t really see “Army of Two” as a game, you’d play one month after you finished it, but hey, prove me wrong, EA.
To get the full brief on alle the new multiplayer features, head on over to VE3D.
New Left 4 Dead 2 “Survival Guide” Trailer [Comments Off]
Shacknews has obtained a new trailer for Valve’s Zombie Apocalypse Simulator “Left 4 Dead 2″. There’s really not much else I can say about it except that it’s a must watch for everyone even remotely interested in the game.
Thanks, Alex.
Why PC gamers want dedicated servers in Modern Warfare 2 back [Comments Off]
1UP’s Chris Pereira nails it:
What this really comes down to is a matter of choice. IWNet eliminates much of the choices and freedom that PC gamers have enjoyed for years, and it’s also removing one of the greatest advantages to playing games on a PC in mod support.
[...]it incentivizes downloadable content to a market that could otherwise turn to an unlimited supply of free, community-made DLC.
We’ll see how Infinity Ward or Activision will react to the community outcry, as the petition is now at 120.000 signatures, far eclipsing the outrage “Left 4 Dead 2″ has seen.
Ballmer: Xbox 360 getting blu-ray; Digital-Foundry: makes no sense [Comments Off]
While a Blu-Ray drive will never be in the Xbox 360, Ballmer confirmed today that you will be able to buy one to add to your existing console:
Well I don’t know if we need to put Blu-ray in there—you’ll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories.
Ballmer really does not want you to buy that PS3. However, the announcement was faced with scepticism early on, as DigitalFoundry’s Richard Leadbetter points out:
HD-DVD handled 30Mbps max, while Blu-ray ups the ante to 50Mbps. At the time of the HD-DVD add-on’s launch, Microsoft talked about how a combination of both CPU and GPU power was required to handle the decoding. Assuming there’s no overhead in the code, it could require significant re-engineering to get it up to BD specs.
This is just one from the laundry list of reasons he deems it unlikely.
While Microsoft certainly is no stranger to adding accessories to the Xbox 360, this move seems highly unlikely, given that the company has often stretched that they believe that digital distribution is the future for movies on consoles, offering solutions such as Netflix Streaming, Video on Demand, and soon, the Zune Marketplace on Xbox 360.
