How Bungie is trying to avoid trade-ins with Halo 3: ODST

Besides making people virtually glued to their Xbox 360s for years with fantastic multiplayer modes, Bungie has another trick up its sleeve to keep people from selling their copies of “Halo 3: ODST” back to Gamestop and the likes — the “Halo: Reach” beta:

Buy Halo 3: ODST and receive an invitation to participate in the Halo: Reach Xbox LIVE multiplayer beta. If you want in, hold onto your copy of Halo 3: ODST and stay tuned to Bungie.net and Xbox.com for more details.

Pretty smart, I say. Not only does this make “ODST” more enticing, people will also be less likely to trade the game in after they’re done with it.
