We like Halo Wars now [Comments Off]

Ever since it’s release in the year 2001, Halo has been the juggernaut and de facto standard of console first-person shooters. It’s not surprising that Microsoft is trying to achieve the same thing with Halo Wars, a finely tuned realtime-strategy game for the Xbox 360 that heavily banks on the popularity and depth of the Halo universe.

We liked it, but find out why! continue reading →

New Final Fantasy XIII trailer is… you know [Comments Off]

Ladies and Gentlemen, a new Final Fantasy XIII trailer was bestowed upon us by the folks at Square Enix. It features — for the first time — gameplay footage! Without further ado, here’s the link to the trailer.

Interesting: The Xbox Live logo on the bottom. Square Enix has yet to release any information on how network connectivity will be used in this title, but here’s hoping they will reveal additional information about that soon.

Leaked Alan Wake video is fucking awesome [Comments Off]

Please excuse my naivity. Here I was, thinking that Alan Wake was going to be Microsoft’s answer to PlayStation 3 hopeful Heavy Rain. I could not have been more wrong. First of, let me start by saying that the video — taken from the footage that will alledgedly be shown at GDC09 — that has now been leaked to YouTube, looks absolutely fantastic; not the quality though.

The video shows the protagonist wandering around snowed-in woods with a flashlight in first person view — I did not see that coming — stumbling across a few seemingly abandoned cabins.

Very atmospheric, very beautiful and hopefully very much out this year.

Halo Wars is potentially fucking awesome [Comments Off]

The soon to be-released RTS spin-off of Bungie’s beloved Halo franchise is about to be released in less than a month. Halo Wars, lovingly crafted by the soon de-funct Ensemble studios, is set to revolutionize the way players go about real time strategy-games in a console enviroment — just like Halo once did for first person shooters.

While the future of Ensemble Studios is unclear, additional downloadable content for Halo Wars is being evaluated; probably depending on how many Halo fans will be willing to trade in their Assault-Rifles for a cursor. Here is hoping that the juggernaut of a franchise and the relatively good release-date will be beneficial to the game that, so far, is looking to live up to it’s name… and it’s not as if there had been a disappointing entry in the series so far.

A demo is slated for the 2nd of february, but if you want to be amongst the lucky few who will be playing the demo this weekend, all you need to do is write me a haiku why you should be the one to have it. The winner will be notified and be given the key for the download on thursday night. I am not eligible — damn.

Fallout 3 Operation Anchorage is out, fucking awesome [Comments Off]

Xbox 360. Fallout 3. Asians. If these three things are relevant to your interests, I have some very good news for you: Operation Anchorage, in which it is your mission to save Alaska from the Chinese, was dropped onto the Xbox Live Marketplace at some point tonight and is now available for 800 bottle caps.
I would love to give out a glowing recommendation, but unfortunately, the version of Fallout 3 I’ve spent my money on is inarguably wrong… or not, as the expansion failed to garner too much acclaim, despite the warm welcome from many players. A shame really, I was almost going to trade my copy in after work — the more you know…

“But I will say that if my girlfriend were ever to find out that I’d spent seven quid out of our joint account on 150 minutes of gameplay that I only half-enjoyed, she’d kick me in the face. She wouldn’t even hesitate.”
  — Will Porter, Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage Review, Eurogamer

I am not sure, if this is more telling about the quality of the game, or how emasculated Mr Porter seems to be. Also, keep in mind, this was only the first out of three expansions of the game, there is two yet to come, and the third, Broken Steel, will increase the level-cap to 30. Here’s hoping for a bundle.

Resident Evil 5 is fucking awesome [Comments Off]

The biggest news of today is the return of one of gaming’s most beloved franchises, courtesy of the wonderful and ever so content-filled Xbox Live Marketplace: Resident Evil 5. Don’t worry, PlayStation 3 only owners, your time will come soon enough — next monday to be more specific, but for now, Xbox Live Gold subscribers around the world are being treated to a 2-level demo of Capcom’s survival horror shooter.

Basically, Resident Evil 5 is an updated, polished version of RE4, however, it brings some new elements to the mix that both help keep the series relevant and embrace, and sometimes alienate, the fans of previous installments. Elaboration time!

The economy is fucking awesome [Comments Off]

As january is coming to an end, the first month of 2009 marked the end of renowned game studios such as EA Black Box (Skate, Need for Speed) and Free Radical (TimeSplitters, Haze). Additionally, both Sony and Microsoft had massive layoffs in their respective gaming divisions — I would even argue that the closing of Ensemble Studios (Halo Wars, Age of Empires) is partly due to the current state of the economy.

Unfortunately, tough times call for tough measures. Today, I would like to take the issue head-on and see what can be done to maybe avoid or lessen the impact of the crisis.

wearetheinternetz is fucking awesome [Comments Off]

I thought now was a good time to welcome you to the new and entirely different wearetheinternetz.com. Welcome back to a land filled with journalistic integrity, no bias and most importantly: english. If you want to spew your hateful bullshit in the comments section, you have come to the wrong place.

This website will be updated exactly once daily. Please, do not think of it as a blog anymore — eventhough I realize it looks like one, but more of a magazine of sorts. Also, it will focus entirely on industry news concerning games available for either PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. That being said, if Nintendo decides to release something worthwhile for the Wii, I will be more than glad to write about it.

I hope all of you are having a fun and safe weekend and I am excited to present some really interesting content come monday. Oh, and enjoy the ladies!

Yes, sometimes the pictures are sexist,
but you lovely bitches and hoes should know I’m trying to correct this.
